The Annual General Moan

Just a quickie today because I'm on a half-day at work. Not to rub it in or anything, obviously...

Last night was the football club AGM.

Reasons not to hold the AGM in a pub:

1) You are already in the pub. There is therefore no impetus to 'get this wrapped up so we can get to the pub'. People are quite happy being in the pub. If it is held in a cold room with minimal refreshments and hard chairs then people will be more eager to put the 'meat' into the meeting, get done and get to the pub;
2) The meeting gradually deteriorates as more booze is consumed. What start out as nice, concise, rational arguments end up as long, offensive, rambling rants which fail to achieve any point;
3) people spill their drinks over their agenda, the accounts, the membership survey or the laptop and projector (yes, it was one of 'those' sorts of meeting);
4) the meeting becomes slightly disrupted when the pub quiz starts up in the main room and people are more interested in playing along with that than the business of the meeting;
5) your Ex, who you have just - unfairly and publically - ripped into on your blog may turn up and blank you seriously suggesting that he has read said blog. Fortunately that is the worst that happened. In a pub, with glass, it could have a lot worse. And it is surprising how painful icecubes hurled into your face can actually be. Also very sticky, full-sugar cola-based drinks are very difficult to wash off.

And yes, I do admit, after the Chair I did the most talking.
