Holiday time, hence the absence (more on this another time) and the short post...
A couple of weeks ago Facebook unleashed its latest change - the Timeline. It was announced many months ago with big fanfare and such. It was lauded as an enormous change.
So, what has actually changed?
Well, not a lot really. Your wall was always in chronological order, with most recent activity at the top and it still is. It still tells you everything that you have been doing, when you made friends with people and such like. But - critically - the Timeline has neatened everything up, given it a fresh, simplified look and made things more searchable.
It is a good change.
Yes, there has been a tiny bit of tinkering: you now get a 'cover' picture as well as just a profile picture, and your info has been moved around; but the main thing is the simplicity. It is almost as if they have been listening to my grumbling. In the past the changes have tended to clutter things up, move things around unnecessarily or introduce 'new' features which simply don't work within Facebook. What they have managed to do with Timeline is strip this back to the features that people actually want and use.
Good work, Facebook.
